HERO

My Teacher, My Hero

A hero is often imagined as someone with extraordinary powers, wearing a cape, or saving the day in a dramatic fashion. However, not all heroes fight in battlefields or appear in movies. Some work quietly, shaping lives and building futures without expecting fame or applause. My hero is my teacher — the one who has left a lasting imprint on my heart and mind.

A Guiding Light

From my first day in the classroom, I could sense that my teacher was different. They greeted each student with a warm smile and an encouraging tone, making us feel valued and respected. Their voice carried not just knowledge, but also care, passion, and sincerity. This combination made the classroom a place of curiosity rather than fear, where we were eager to learn, ask questions, and express our ideas freely.

Passion for Teaching

My teacher’s dedication goes beyond delivering lessons. They make every topic come alive — whether it is a complex subject like mathematics, an inspiring piece of literature, or a thought-provoking discussion about life. They use examples we can relate to, practical activities to reinforce understanding, and even humor to keep us engaged. Through their teaching, they instill in us a love for learning that will remain long after we leave the classroom.

A Mentor and a Friend

What sets my teacher apart is the ability to connect with students on a personal level. They are not just an instructor but also a mentor and friend. When a student struggles, they take the time to listen, understand, and encourage. They celebrate our victories, no matter how small, and stand by us in our challenges. My teacher’s office door is always open, and so is their heart.

Instilling Values

Beyond academic lessons, my teacher teaches values — honesty, discipline, hard work, and respect. They remind us that education is not only about passing exams but also about building character. They often say, “Knowledge without character is like a tree without roots.” Those words inspire me to live a life of integrity and purpose.

Inspiration for the Future

Heroes inspire others to become better, and my teacher has inspired me in countless ways. They have taught me to believe in myself, to persevere in difficult times, and to dream big. When I face challenges, I remember their encouraging words and example, and I find the strength to keep going.

Why My Teacher is My Hero

My teacher may not wear a superhero’s costume, but they possess something far greater — the power to change lives. They have shown me that real heroes are those who dedicate themselves to the service of others, who invest in people’s growth, and who leave the world better than they found it.

In conclusion, my teacher is my hero not because they are perfect, but because they have made a difference in my life. They have shaped my mind, guided my path, and inspired my dreams. I carry their lessons in my heart, and I know that years from now, I will still remember them — not just as a teacher, but as the hero who believed in me when I needed it most.

STUDENT'S ATTRIBUTE

SEVEN ATTRIBUTES OF A GOOD STUDENT

Goal-driven
Having
both short-term and long-term goals will help you

achieve something. Short-term goals could include finishing each semester with a minimum of a 90, 1.75, or an A- for an overall grade, depending on your school’s grading system. Examples of a long-term goal would be finishing with a Latin honor or at least graduating on time.

Inspired
There should always be something to motivate you to keep doing your best in your studies. One could be the hard work or sacrifices of your parents just to send you to school.

Diligent
This means spending extra hours at night to study your lessons and finish your assignments. In short, you need to overcome laziness and procrastination.

Persevering
Perseverance equates with hard work. No matter how challenging your subjects/courses are, you will not give up and settle with mediocracy. You will always exert enough or more effort just to come up with excellent output or performance.

Punctual
A good student is not tardy. Yes, punctuality is hard to maintain, but if you are determined to get the most of your studies, then you will strive to come to school early. This will not only save you from a bad impression, but it will also keep you from missing early quizzes and other activities.

Courteous
Being respectful of your teachers, school staff, and fellow students is a sign that you are more than a good student—you are a good person. Therefore, make it a habit to greet or at least smile at those you meet in the corridors.

Honest
Cheaters do not make good students, so say goodbye to your cheating buddies. Exams are evaluations of your learning. Meaning, it does not matter if you do not get perfect scores as long as you get to assess how much you have learned from a lesson.

TEACHING

The Concept of Teaching
Teaching is an attempt to bring about desirable changes in human learning, abilities and behaviour in order to contribute to better living. Teaching helps people to gain the knowledge, skills and attitudes they need to be responsible citizens. It is also a means of passing knowledge to the next generation. Awotua-Efebo (2001) sees teaching as an interaction between a teacher and a student under the teacher’s responsibility, in order to bring about the expected change in the students behaviour. According to Gagne & Briggs, 1989 in Awotua-Efebo (2001), the purpose of teaching, are to help students to
• Acquire, retain and be able to use knowledge
• Understand, analyse, synthesize and evaluate skills
• Establish habits and
• Develop attitudes
Omieibi-Davies (2011) sees the changes in behaviour that occurs as a result of teaching as follows:
a.   An increased store of useful information and the understanding of basic principles in the subject matter.
b.   An acquisition of psychomotor skills, abilities and habits.
c.   Possession of desirable attitudes and ideas, such as developing satisfaction about learning outcomes.
Components of Teaching
In order to come up with an effective teaching approach, three major components of teaching have been identified namely:-
1.   Preparation - Here the teacher plans the lessons he/she intends to teach including all the activities needed to put the lesson together.
2.   Execution – Here the teacher is involved in communicating the lesson to the students as prepared in the lesson notes using the designed teaching model/strategies. The classroom management is also involved here.
3.   Evaluation – Here the teacher does all it takes to ensure that the lesson is effective considering the teaching model used for a particular class. Students are evaluated here through tests, and other quizzes, etc

Teaching Principles
In order to carry out an effective teaching task below is a list of helpful guide for a successful teaching.
1.   Planned teaching results in more learning. The teacher must be clear in his/her mind right from the start on what he/she intend to do. Teachers are encouraged to plan their lessons extensively; such defined goals helps the teacher to determine the methodology appropriate to the subject matter to aid teaching and learning.
2.   Teachers should be able to guide students effectively to achieve the objectives of lessons taught.
3.   Students tend to achieve in ways they are tested, teachers are encouraged to test students in different ways to enhance their achievement rates in various domains.
4.   Students learn from one another. Encourage students to work in groups while solving problems as this goes a long way to enhance learning.
The Teacher
A teacher is expected to have a total commitment in giving the children the type of education that trains them to growth and development. A teacher is a person who is qualified in every way as a professional teacher to teach in schools especially in his/her area of specialization. A teacher’s personality type should be divergent, enduring and stable enough to help learners solve their problems. No educational system can be stronger than the caliber of the teaching staff. In recognition of this fact, the Federal Republic of Nigeria National Policy on Education (2004) stated, "All teachers in our educational institutions, from pre-primary to university, will be professionally trained. The teacher is the sole implementer of the curriculum in the classroom. The main focus of the implementation of the curriculum is the learner, while the most important person in curriculum implementation is the teacher. (Obasi, Adaobi & Ajeka, 2007). The teacher is the prime mover of the educational system. Aghanta (1991) conceptualizes that as an input operator into the educational system, the teacher plays a major role in the conversion of raw materials particularly students into finished products e.g. graduates.

MY PROFESSION

I AM A TEACHER

I am a teacher not because I went to college
Not because I am taught how to teach
Not because I am paid salary
Not because I have to teach to live
Not because there are no 'better jobs'
Not because I'm compelled.
Not because I want to be called Sir/Master.
I AM A TEACHER because it is my CALLING.

Sometimes I look at my certificate, my school, my pupils as I compare it with my salary, I laugh
When I look at what I teach, how i teach it, I thank God for taking me through college.

But when I sit down and look at the past, how the end has been for some teachers as compared to other professionals, I feel sorry for the profession.

But when I remember that it is the TEACHER that produces all other professionals, I feel blessed.

I am SATISFIED when I see my students becoming useful to the society.

I conclude that teaching is not just my job,
It's my CALLING.
It's my PURPOSE.
I feel proud being a Teacher.
I LIVE to TEACH!!!

A TEACHER

WHO IS A TEACHER?

Many people believe  a teacher is just someone who teaches in a classroom, little do they know that a teacher is much more. I will take time to explain more on who a teacher is as we read on.

A teacher is commonly known as someone who teaches i.e. in a classroom. A teacher is very necessary in the educational system because if we have no teacher, the coming generation would be left ignorant.

A teacher is a pacesetter. Who is a pacesetter? A pacesetter is someone who gets good examples for others to follow. A teacher sets the pace in many areas; Educationally, Religiously, Morally and Socially. In an educational system, students see their teacher, especially the little ones, as a person who cannot make mistakes find children even go to the extent of saying 'that is not how my teacher taught us'. In the religious aspect, Christians and Muslims and even traditional worshipers look up to their religious leaders to lead them aright which clearly shows that teachers are pacesetters.

A teacher is a nation builder different profession helps in developing the nation and no profession is less important, both educational and non-educational profession. However, each person goes through a teacher. a certified doctor has to pass through many years of training in the school and is taught by a teacher, so also a mechanic who may have not gone to school undergoes training. All these people who helps in developing the nation has passed through a teacher which just means the teacher is a nation builder.

A teacher is a character builder. these point deals with parents, elders in the community as young ones consider them to be the ones who knows how one ought to behave. so every parent as a teacher is assigned with giving the children sound training character wise. Click here for more...
